What is Rebar Coil? (Cold-Drawn)
Rebar coil is an alternative to straight rebar in lengths, the coil allows for continuous production and significantly less waste. To improve the quality of the bond with the concrete, the surface of rebar is patterned with ‘ribs’.
Cold drawing creates a highly malleable coiled material that is easier to work with and yields more precise and consistent finished products compared to hot-rolled material. Additionally, cold-drawn material generates significantly less scrap and reduces wear and tear on automatic processing equipment.
Rebar is necessary to compensate for the fact that whilst concrete is strong in compression, it is relatively weak in tension. By casting rebar into concrete, it is able to carry tensile loads and so increase overall strength and stability.
