What are Steel Slabs?

Steel Slabs are the intermediate steel product of hot rolled coil, cold rolled coil, galvanized coil, reversing mill plate, and sheet products. The typical thickness of steel slabs is 200 to 240 mm.

Steel slabs are produced through either the basic oxygen furnace (BOF) or electric arc furnace (EAF) route. They can be refined in ladle arc furnace and vacuum degasser facilities, undergoing controlled temperatures and chemistries, which allows for a wide range of steel grades for the most demanding applications.

When applied, the theoretical weight of each slab is calculated using the formula: TONNE = (T(mm) × W(mm) × L(mm)) / 1000 / 1000 × 7.85 (where 7.85 is the density in tonne/m³).
